Along with the 1983, this is probably my favorite d'Issan in the last 20 years. It exhibits a medium dark ruby color with only some amber at the edge. The floral, intensely ripe, spicy aroma is followed by a relatively rich, medium- to full-bodied, concentrated wine with excellent depth and as much length as one is likely to ever find in a d'Issan. The tannins have nearly melted away, and the wine is close to reaching full maturity. Anticipated maturity: Now-1999. Last tasted, 3/89.
