More info about Italian wine: As mentioned above, Italy is one of the main wine-producing and wine-exporting countries in the world (OIV Estimation: in 2015 it is the largest wine-exporting country in the world). Since Italy has many different climates (cool in the north and warm in the south) Italian wines offer great diversity. We mainly focus on the northern regions of Veneto (the region surrounding Venice in the north-east), Piemonte (in the north-west) and Toscane (Tuscany), but wine is produced all over the country. The wines are subdivided according to the French model. We differentiate between DOC (Denominazione di origine controllata - designation of origin) and DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita - designation of origin with even higher quality requirements).
