1995 Corton Charlemagne - Domaine Jacob Robert et Raymond

The last wine today was a Corton Charlemagne from 1995 by Domaine Jacob, Robert et Raymond. It had the slightly darker color of old gold or straw, very viscous as well, clinging to the glass as if attracted by magnetic force. Excellent bouquet rising from the glass with a purity and concentration as if someone had turned on an electric diffuser spreading wonderful aroma’s. Churned butter and cookie dough, sweet, ripe cox orange apples and apricot in great abundance. A hint of honey, cognac with a woody and nutty undertone as well. Boy, this was a great classic chardonnay that just ticked every box for me. In the mouth the same clingy fattiness, leaving a creamy film long after swallowing. There’s the purity and intensity of the fruit with great depth and warmth of the woody character and enough fresh acidity to result in impeccable balance. This is no summer terrace wine but something to enjoy in front of the fireplace after a long walk through the forest. Compared to a car? This is your classic Bentley!
