1973 Gevrey Chambertin “Les Cazetiers” – Armand Rousseau

Tasting note from a bottle with level at 4cm below the cork. The color is light cherry red edging towards a little brownish.

The wine is clear and vivid in my glass, sparkling and bright, lots of tension. However, the more glasses were poured, the more the wine became cloudy. This luckily didn’t affect smell or taste, I tried from an extra  glass just to make sure.

The perfume is lovely and delicate : a hint of red fruit intertwined with a whiff of old oak and autumnal forest.

It’s a very accessible wine to drink, you have the nice sweet fruity onset, which is followed by a lighter, somewhat hollow midsection. The finish is quite hot and alcoholic, perhaps a tad too much for this lighter style of wine.

All in all it definitely is a good example of what a great producer can achieve in a disastrous growing season.
