1966 Chambolle Musigny - Côte de Nuits

From 1966 we opened a bottle of Chambolle Musigny. A simple appellation communale but from a great year and made by the producers who own the famous Clos de Tart - Mommessin. Here the cork had descended most of the way down the neck and  was covered in mold, but luckily enough it was still solid and with a little effort came out in one piece. Here was that pale transparent roof tile with an orange hue to it you should expect. First scents were lovely spice box with a little fruit trailing behind, after a couple of minutes of aeration smelling this was like sipping a cup of Earl Grey in an English rose garden : wonderful scents of tealeaves, bergamot and soft rose petals with a sweetness of liquorice as well. A great wine with everything well in place, perhaps this won’t blow you away like a Schwarzenegger blockbuster but it is more rustic and endearing with the charm of a great classic like Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights.
