1962 Château Pavie - St Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé

| PAVIE | 1962 | Mc

1962 Château Pavie, coming from a more than decent vintage albeit mostly forgotten about since it’s following a legendary vintage (1961).

Color was dark rusty red, nice shine to it, high viscosity. Wonderfully perfumed this one, with great scents of autumn forest intermingled with red berry jam, sweetness and spices as well, violets and a cedary finish. In the mouth this wine has great depth and warmth, quite a  lot of alcohol actually for such an old bottle and long lasting aftertaste, again finishing on a woody note. I can’t stress enough on how vibrant and young this wine still appears, this is more concentrated and powerful than many wines a decade or more younger, it may be well past its peak but still going strong and will probably still be enjoyable for its 60th birthday in 2022.
