It was not until 1971 that Guigal decided that aging the wine in 100% new, French oak barrels was better for the wine. La Mouline is usually the first of the three top wines from Guigal to be harvested. This is due to its specific, slightly warmer, precocious, micro climate.
The grapes for Guigal La Mouline come from about 1 hectare of vines planted on a steep hillside vineyard on Cote Blonde. The terroir is mostly loose soils of granite, gneiss, limestone and various minerals in the soil.
