1982 Château Ausone - St Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé
The color immediately passed the test : deep brick red with barely a hint of light brown in the outer rim, so very consistent with 1982.Very powerful aroma’s suggested a good pedigree : not overly fruity but still nice red cherries present, wonderful delicate floral notes were combined with woody, autumnal aromas. Adding to the complexity was a gentle sweetness and some licorice, nicely balanced by a minty freshness. So this was the second confirmation, all the aromas and depth of an excellent glass of wine definitely present.
Then the ultimate test: the tasting. Here we had a wonderfully structured wine, very warm and alcoholic but more than enough fruit and freshness to carry it well. Mouth filling, very savory and supple but with a nice backbone of very present but softened tannins, great stuff!
